Kreidler stated the most expensive part of the ice arena is the cooling system. The cost is about $300,000., however the prices may be coming down. Delano purchased theirs for $250,000. Anderson said now they are coming out with modular .cooling systems. Eichers asked if Kreidler if Ramsey County has been approached. Kreidler said they are not interested. Kreidler stated LRHA approached Ramsey County and asked to purchase their Shoreview arena but they were not interested in selling. ' Seward commented that Mounds View has more land available. Johnson asked Kreidler what LRHA preference is. Kreidler responded that they want a practice facility. A top notch facility is not reasonable at this time - we don't have the money. It would be nice to build with. enough room to expand if necessary. Rose asked how big the rink would need to be. Kreidler said a regular rink is about. 85-200' and an Olympic rink is about 100-200'. Prefer the bigger rink because kids are bigger now and a larger rink adds more finesse to the game. Anderson thought it would be a good idea to have a sub- committee and do some research and come back to the Park Board with a report. Anderson said that a donated hockey facility should not hinder the community center. MOTION BY CARLSON, SECONDED BY KALINA, TO ESTABLISH A SUB- COMMITTEE TO WORK WITH LRHA TO GAIN AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE REGARDING THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ICE ARENA IN NEW BRIGHTON. Eichers feels this is a School District issue. The School District has the land. Dave Childs commented that Burt Nygren was excited about an ice arena. Carlson suggested looking at the School District, getting more information and sharing the date. Against adding the. ice arena to the community center.
