Meadowood Park was built by the city of New Brighton. It is
located in the center of a housing development which is in proximity
to Rice Creek Shopping Center.
While the surrounding houses were being developed it seems
that the central area was reserved .for the building of this park. The
location of Meadowood Park makes it highly accessible to the
residents in the local area. The park was also observed to be a safe
place for children to .play while their parents shopped at the near by
.shopping center.
The overall purpose of the play area is to promote psychosocial,
perceptual, cognitive and motor development across all ages. .This
recreational area allows for interaction between children which
promotes social skills. The equipment area is divided into an upper
and lower terrace. The upper terrace is designed to accommodate
toddlers-kindergarten, and the lower terrace is more appropriate for
older children. The various fields and courts allow for organized
competitive play among older children and adults. The play area
may also prevent unwanted temptations that children may have
during free time, by providing an attractive place to play.
Meadowood Park is not directly accessible. There are no
streets that boarder the park. The park is located west of Rice Creek
Shopping Center, which is on Silver Lake Road, and east of 29th
Avenue. Mississippi street lies directly north of the park and Rice
Creek Road lies directly south of the park. 27th Avenue and 28th
1
