Avenue are cul-de-sacs that give access to the park on the north and
south side.
The residential dwellings on 27th and 28th Avenue are mainly
duplexes. The homes on 29th Avenue are single-family dwellings.
On the southeast corner of the recreational area there is a large
apartment complex. To enter Meadowood Park one must pass
through the business area of Rice Creek Shopping center. (Diagram
A)
The play area contains seven pieces of equipment. On the
upper terrace there are five spring animals, a merry-go-round and a
miniature jungle gym. Two side-by-side slides connect the lower
and upper terrace. On the lower terrace there is a hexagonal swing
set with five regular swings and one bucket swing for young
children. There is also a wide wooden teeter-totter and a large
jungle-gym. (Diagram B)
The five spring animals on the upper terrace are painted with
bright vibrant colors. Two of the animals are blue, two are yellow
and one is green. the dimensions of each animal are approximately
two feet high ,two feet long and eight inches wide. The intended use
is probably to elicit "rhythmical stereotypies" of the torso, which are
non-purposeful rhythmic movements.
The merry-go-round is approximately six feet in diameter and
eight inches off the ground. This piece of equipment is also painted a
bright colorful yellow. The intended purpose of the merry-go-round
is most likely to aid in perceptual development and alter one's state
of equilibrium.
2
