The .miniature jungle gym consists of a ladder, platform and a
slide. The platform is approximately three feet by three feet and
four feet off the ground. The ladder rungs are eleven inches apart.
The dimensions of the slide are five feet by three feet. The purpose
is probably to accommodate children between the ages of one and
five.
The two slides connecting the upper and lower terrace are
about ten .feet in length and eighteen inches wide. There are
relatively few steps that need to be climbed in order to reach the top
of the slide. The steps are made up of railroad ties measuring six
inches by six inches. The slide is built into the hill allowing for a
constant height of less than four inches. The slide is useful in joining
the two levels of play area.
The .six swings on the hexagonal swing set are roughly a foot
and a half off the ground. The swings are arranged in order for
children to face each other while swinging. A feeling of flight and
perceptual development are the two major purposes of the swing set.
The dimensions of the teetor-totter are unusual. The length is
shorter than the average teetor-totter. The length is about eight feet
and the width is about two feet. The end that is off the ground
reaches a height of approximately three feet. Each .end has a
standing bar which is two feet high and two inches in diameter. This
type of teeter-totter is unique in that it is designed to have the
children standing rather than sitting.
The center of attraction of this play area is the large irregular
shaped jungle gym. The height of the structure, including the hand
rails of the highest platform, is roughly twelve feet. The other two
3
