dimensions are, .thirty-five feet long and twenty feet wide. The play
structure is made of wood, metal bars, which are roughly an inch in
diameter, and chains.
Various pieces of play equipment are. linked together to form
this massive structure. The pieces of equipment that are intended to
promote climbing and muscular development are, the overhead
ladder, the graded chain link ladder, and the half rainbow ladder.
The surface of the equipment area is covered with sand. This
surface tends to be a safety feature. The entire equipment area is
boarded by connected railroad ties. This boundary holds the sand in
and defines the playground. Between the two levels is a two teared
sandbox. This allows children to play in the sand without being
disrupted by more active children. There is a large amount of open
space surrounding the play area. This grassy space may be used for
a variety of activities, such as tag, soccer, football,. and as an outfield
for a softball game. Within the park there is a softball field, a
basketball court, and a sand volleyball court. On the south side of
the park there is a path which is used for walking, bicycling, roller
blading, and skateboarding.
Located under the shelter are picnic tables and adjacent to .the
shelter is a barbecue. The shelter may be used for picnicking and it
also provides shade. Surrounding the park there are many trees and
shrubs which makes the park more appealing. The trees provide
shade and a structure to climb on.
During the eight hours of observation the total number
observed .for all the five minute intervals was 378. Within this
number there were people that were counted more than once.
4
