Benke stated it was an excellent con- <br />ference, well attended, and encouraged councilmembers to attend <br />next year's conference in Rochester. <br /> <br />Sinda reported on the Community Development Block Grant as sub- <br />mitted to the county, the recommendation being that New Brighton <br />receive $200,000 toward the new downtown shopping center. The <br />recommendation will to through the policy committee on July 7th, <br />then to the County Board on July 21, 1986. Benke suggested <br />councilmembers contact members of the policy committee (Hunt, <br />Salverda, and McCarty)to let them know it is a good recommenda- <br />tion. Schmidt stated he will be seeing all three of them at <br />various meeting and will discuss our development with them. <br />Benke stated, if there is any indication of reluctance for <br />support on behalf of the Committee, to let other councilmembers <br />know. <br /> <br />Brandt stated Stockyard Days, Inc. had a fantastic celebration <br />this last weekend and felt it would be appropriate for council <br />to indicate its enthusiasm for their accomplishments. Benke <br />agreed and plans to have staff prepare an appropriate resolution <br />for presentation at the next council meeting. <br /> <br />Schmidt agrees they should be recognized, but has heard concern <br />about the lack of attendance; Brandt mentioned there was competi- <br />tion in the area; Benke stated the Stockyard Days officials are <br />also concerned and will have discussions. <br /> <br />Benke indicated he will be meeting with Gunderman and Ed Walhoff, <br />president of Stockyard Days, to discuss not only Stockyard Days <br />but also the Centennial; hopes to have agenda discussion at the <br />next council meeting. <br /> <br />Not knowing if this was a "first" or not, Sinda announced there <br />was a 12:00 Noon wedding today in the chambers; Sergeant Dennis <br />Raymond married Carol Kelley from Community Development/Public <br />Works.
