I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
June 24, 1986

Council Business, continued

Schmidt stated that with trade-in it is only $700 less than the
John Deere without a trade-in and only $1,000 less than the Toro
without a trade-in; asked what the price would be without the
trade-in and if there was any way of getting the price of the new
Cushman down because the trade-in is only four years old.

Anderson stated that neither of the other two companies will give
us a trade-in and stated the city could probably sell it in the
auction for $200-$300. Anderson continued that John Deere and
Toro are very good pieces of equipment and would not be
disappointed to go to either of them, stating the city has had a
Toro for eight years which had been rebuilt once and a John
Deere for six years with no problems.

In response to Gunderman's questions, Anderson stated Toro
parts are extremely expensive, John Deere parts are more readily
available and may be obtained quite reasonably, and Cushman is
similar to Toro with respect to a monopoly, but they are not as
expensive. Anderson also stated his preference would be either
John Deere or Toro but, with regard to parts, would lean toward
John Deere.

Gunderman supported Schmidt's concern that we take another look
at the purchase.

Benke felt that, because of parts availability and cost, both
the John Deere and the Toro should be looked at from the life-
cycle perspective.

Motion by Schmidt, seconded by Williams, ACCEPT JOHN DEERE'S BID
OF $6,395.00 AND DIRECT STAFF TO PURSUE THE SALE OF THE CUSHMAN.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Announcements and Updates

Benke announced Representative Vento's Town Hall Meeting on
Monday, June 30, 1986.

Benke announced the annual city hall picnic would be on Tuesday,
August 5, 1986, and encouraged councilmembers to attend.

Benke stated the North Suburban Mayors Association would be meet-
ing Thursday, June 26, 1986, at the University Radisson and that
Mr. Pohlad, owner of the Minnesota Twins, would be in attendance.

Benke briefly reviewed the League of Minnesota Cities conference
in Duluth last week which he and Sinda attended; indications are
that the farmers' situation will impact urban and suburban commu-
nity development (future development should be owner-occupied

Page Nine

Announcements
and Updates

Vento Town Hall

City Hall Picnic

North Suburban
Mayors Meeting

LMC Conference
