<br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City <br />Council was held Tuesday, May 14, 1985, at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal <br />building, 803 Fifth Avenue NW. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Harcus, Counci1members Benke, Blomquist, Janecek, and <br />Schmidt (7:36 p.m.) <br /> <br />Also <br />Present: <br /> <br />Henry Sinda, City Manager <br />James Winkels, Director of Community Development <br />Les Proper, City Engineer <br />Maurice Anderson, Park & Recreation Director <br />Brenda Krueger, City Planner <br />Charles LeFevere, City Attorney <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />\ <br /> <br />Motion by Blomquist, seconded by Harcus, to APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE <br />APRIL 23, 1985, REGULAR MEETING. <br /> <br />4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor, with the consent of the City Council, directed receipt of <br />the Park Board minutes of May 1,1985. <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> <br />Harcus noted that both applicants would be good members of <br />the Planning Commission; would favor Ken Becker because <br />he had attempted to be appointed on several occasions to <br />various committees; moved, seconded by Janecek, to APPOINT <br />KEN BECKER TO FILL A VACANCY ON THE PLANNING COMMISSION <br />WITH AN EXPIRATION DATE OF DECEMBER 31, 1986. <br /> <br />Appointment - <br />Planning Commission <br />Report 85-126 <br /> <br />Blomquist agreed that both applicants are well-qualified <br />and would make an excellent contribution to the Planning <br />Commission; felt Mr. Duoos's experience in development <br />might make him a better applicant. <br /> <br />Benke asked if there was anyone else currently on the Com- <br />mission with a development background or experience; <br />Blomquist, the council representative to the Commission, <br />wasn't aware of anyone. <br /> <br />(Schmidt arrived at 7:36 p.m,) <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Harcus briefed Schmidt on the discussion prior to hts <br />arrival. <br /> <br />Schmidt felt that having a developer on the Planning <br />Commission would provide another prospective, but stated <br />consideration should be given to someone who has applied <br />several times and had the qualifications, <br />
