Council Meeting Minutes
July 9, 1985

I

Benke asked staff to relay concerns to the applicant because the
city does have other projects that need the bonding,

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Motion by Blomquist, seconded by Schmidt, to CHANGE THE RULES OF
THE MEETING BE REORDERI~G THE ITEMS ON THE AGENDA.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Harcus stated that Item VIII-l (Update on City Hall Renovation/
E'xpansion Project by Lindberg Pierce, Inc.) would become Item
VIII-3, as the architects had not yet arrived.

Berger announced that both Gary Jones, Chairman of the Citizen
Study Committee, and New Brighton's Fire Chief, Al Bauer, were
present to answer any questions,

Jones had nothing further to add to the staff report.

I

Harcus stated that a large number of persons responded affirma-
tively to having their street name chanqed and he felt that the
negative responses reflect the citizens' desire not to have the
name changed to the survey's example (14th Street Terrace N.W.).
Harcus indicated the post office said that most people will have
their addresses changed within six months, but that the Post
Office will continue to deliver mail to the old addresses for as
long as perhaps fourteen months. Harcus also indicated that
driver's licenses, by state law, are not required to be changed
when a street name has been changed.

Blomquist expressed pleasure with the report, the work the Citizen
Study Committee did, and the survey data collected. Asked for the
difference of "Street Terrace" versus "Terrace" only.

Jones advised the council that the survey stated "Street Terrace"
indicating that Street was added per city staff's request as it
gives an east-west indication. Jones indicated that the response
warranted dropping "Street" and using only "Terrace" because
"Street Terrace" was too long and cumbersome. Jones noted that
the only time "Terrace" is currently being used in New Brighton is
on east/west streets.

Blomquist asked for confirmation that the changes would be con-
sistent with the existing "Terraces" and Jones so confirmed.

I

Schmidt was impressed with the number of persons who responded to
the survey and can appreciate prOblems residents are having with
the i r ma il ,

Benke asked about changing addresses on checks and felt the city
could lower the impact on the citizens if it could advise them
what needs to be done, per page two of comments of staff report,

Page Seven

City Ha 11
Renovation/
Expansion

Renam.ing "A"
Streets
Report 85-190
