I

I

I

Council Mi nutes
Oecember 17, 1984

Bob Pierce, Lindberg Pierce Architects, Inc. reviewed what
has been done since his last appearance at a City Council
meeting about two months ago.

Benke asked about cost-efficiency of curved conference room.
Pierce indicated it was more cost-efficient than a squared-
off room. Dick Gilyard, Lindberg Pierce, Architects, Inc.,
indicated also that the curvature was so minor that items
like blackboards could be mounted on the wall.

Blomquist was concerned about the extensive hallway and
what appeared to be wasted space in the Finance Department.
Benke noted three areas labeled Clerical/Secretarial/Recep-
tion.

Pi erce agreed to remove Ilreception" from the Community
Development/Public Works Department as well as from the
City Manager's space.

Benke questioned size of space for computer and shared the
concern of excessive hallway space; felt computer room
could be in a more out-of-the-way area; inquired about
audio/visual system in chambers.

Pierce distributed cost forecast with options, notin9 that
for the 14-21 feet of peat, an additional cost of $37,500
was required; total package is $1.1 million which includes
carpeting and items attached to walls :'(no movable items such
as furniture are included). Pierce further stated that archi-
tectural fees were about $85,000 and Winkels stated $200,000
would be needed for bonding and Egan stated another $200,000
would be required for capitalized interest.

Gary Horn, Chairman of the Citizen Study Committee, indicated
a concern as to excess hallways.

Harcus noted we are looking at about $1.5 million total and
that the next step would be to see interior layout.

Blomquist inquired about square footage. Pierce indicated a
total of about 19,000; 10,400 remodeled, 8,400 new.

Benke stated he had a problem with the banner, would like to
see some alternatives to unifying the front and to see how
council chambers would be laid out.

Schmidt felt banner is a stronQ ima~e; would like to know
cost of new construction.

Pierce indicated the banner is estimated at $26,000.

Harcus agreed with comments on banner, noting council's
decision would be a forty-year decision.

Page Two

Presentation of
City Hall Model
by Lindberg Pierce
