I

I

I

Council Minutes
May 8, 1984

Benke asked if there was a need for any type of follow-up
work to help the victims (counseling, contacting Red Cross,
etc.).

Kelley indicated that any such inquiries are being referred
to either the Red Cross or the Salvation Army; Sinda indi-
cated that if those agencies were unable to provide the
proper assistance, they would refer the callers to the
appropriate organization.

Blomquist indicated that representatives of New Brighton
and St. Anthony would be at the June 20, 1984 Ramsey County
League of Local Government's meeting to discuss what was
done regarding the tornado and what perhaps could/should
have been done.

Schmidt asked what type of equipment could have been
used for the past shelters that the Jaycee's were in-
volved in.

Anderson indicated the buildings are prefabricated with
very heavy beams. The Jaycee's shelter involved more
in-house work than if the City had done it alone.

Schmidt asked if we would be better off economically to
have it done by an outside contractor than a combination
of in-house staff and the Jaycee's.

Anderson responded that if we were doing one building,
the City could do it; but there are four buildings in-
volved at this time and the City's workflow is very heavy
at this time. Therefore, it would be feasible to have an
outside contractor construct the shelters.

Motion by Schmidt, seconded by Blomquist, to AUTHORIZE
ISSUANCE OF A PURCHASE ORDER IN THE AMOUNT OF $4,856 TO
DALE ROBERTSON BUILDINGS FOR INSTALLATION OF FOUR PICNIC
SHELTERS.

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Announcements and Updates

Benke indicated the Historical Society is working on an
application for a project this summer that will involve
the excavation of twenty sites for archeological purposes
around long Lake area, in anticipation of finding items
relating to historical lndian settlements in the Rice
Creek area. The Society will also be doing some survey
work with various property owners and will be bringing in
a fuller description of the project to Council at a later
date.

Page Eight

Picnic Shelters
Construction
Report 84-115

Archeological Excavating,
Historical Society
