I

I

I

Special Worksession Minutes
June 26, 1984
Page Two

Exercise Room

Councilmember Blomquist suggested that an alternate site for this
facility may be at the golf course. Need to determine where the
best location might be.

Evidence Room

Kelley requested the additional space due to the lack of room at
city hall to store larger pieces of evidence. Presently these
pieces of evidence are stored in a rather insecure facility at the
maintenance garage.

Garage Area

Kelley explained how the garage area would provide additional
security in detaining prisoners.

The ensuing discussion centered on the time frame, specifically
when the project would be readied for voter approval.

Schmidt, along with Harcus, advocated taking a good look at
building a new facility. Would like to see staff explore the
marketing possibilities of existing city hall and possible land
sites. Councilmember Janecek questioned if the market value for
city hall is realistic, given the problems staff has had with
the building. The feeling among some members of the council was
that a new facility would provide a more efficient layout, re-
ducing square footage and total cost. Would also help to rein-
force the downtown area and possibly attract more development.

Staff was asked to prepare a list of possible sites for a new
city hall, research the agreement with the county regarding the
Park and Rec's facility on the golf course, and finalize all
space requirements.

The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.

Submitted by,

APPROVED:

~fl~

Mayor

e.JM~

Curt Holewa
Administrative Assistant

CH:dy
