City Council
November 22, 1983
Page #3

I

Councilmember Schmidt questioned the size of the proposed renovation.

Mr. Anderson stated that the area to be renovated is approximately
30 feet x 30 feet and would accommodate approximately 20 people.

Counci1member Benke questioned whether the $3,000 cost had been
identified as a clubhouse improvement in either the 1983 or 1984
Capital Improvement Program.

Mr. Anderson stated that $3,000 had been earmarked in the 1984 Capital
Improvement Plan for a clubhouse renovation but that they were now
proposing to use $1,500 of that money plus $1,500 from the
1983 Operating Budget.

Motion by Blomquist, seconded by Janecek to allow staff to perform
$3,000 renovation of half of the storage area of the clubhouse into
a meeting room/exercise area, plans subject to approval by the City
Building Official and Fire Marshall.
5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

I

John Kelley, Chief of Police reviewed the previous staff reports.

Ray McCullough, petitioner stated that residents of the new Innsbruck
project area would like 14th Street name changed as they feel the
quality of the area deserved some recognition.

Mayor Harcus noted that the Fire and Police Departments have in the
past expressed great concern for the numbering and naming of streets
and that the Fire Department currently spends approximately 30% of
their time on the study of street names.

Mr. McCullough stated that he did not feel it would be difficult to
find this particular area in New Brighton as New Brighton was not
that big.

John Kelley, Chief of Police stated that he had spoken to the Fire
Chief earlier in the day who had again expressed a desire to see
14th Street left as it is and that neither the Fire Department or
Police Department could see any advantage to a name change.
Mr. Kelley stated both the Fire and Police Departments felt a name
change for the Innsbruck Terrace cul-de-sac may be appropriate.

I

Councilmember Blomquist stated that he was not convinced that a name
change would be that difficult particularly since the renaming of
the Innsbruck Terrace cul-de-sac would require both Fire and Police
Departmentsto become familiar with a new cul-de-sac name.
Councilmember Blomquist stated with that being the case the learning
of a name similar to that newly named cul-de-sac should not be that
'Jifficult.

Street Name Change
14th Street
Innsbruck Terrace
Report #83-271
