<br />1 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />City of New Brighton <br />September 27, 1983 <br />Page Six <br /> <br />Councilmember Schmidt questioned whether the Historical <br />Society would take any action such as putting in rails, <br />etc., if the staff recommendation was approved. <br /> <br />Mr. Bromander stated that until the Society had an <br />agreement with the City, they couldn't do anything. <br /> <br />Councilmember Benke questioned whether the Planning <br />Commission would have any problems with the concept of <br />the depot being on this site or was it just the lack of <br />complete plans that was creating the difficulties. <br /> <br />The City Planner indicated that the Planning Commission was <br />split on the site location. <br /> <br />Motion by Schmidt, seconded by Blomquist to approve the tem- <br />porary storage of the Depot for a period not to exceed one <br />year. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schmidt questioned who had the responsibility <br />for liability insurance on the site during the interim <br />process. <br /> <br />Mr. Bromander stated that the Society currently carried <br />liability insurance on the depot for $500,000, but they <br />carried no insurance on the building. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes - motion carried <br /> <br />The City Planner reviewed the staff report concerning <br />a request for a variance by Mateffy Engineering for a <br />rear yard setback. <br /> <br />Councilmember Blomquist questioned whether other altern- <br />atives had been explored for other sites for the garage <br />to elminate the need for a variance. <br /> <br />The City Planner stated other alternatives had been <br />explored but that they would eliminate turnaround <br />room for vehicles. <br /> <br />Mr. Les Mattefy, from Mattefy Engineering, was present <br />and stated that there are plans to build a building <br />similar to the one just constructed and that at that <br />time the existing storage building would be removed <br />and more area dedicated to parking. He further <br />stated that moving the garage would not be for the <br />best utilization of the site. <br /> <br />Motion by Harcus, seconded by Janecek to waive the reading <br />and adopt a RESOLUTION MAKING FINDINGS OF FACT AND <br />APPROVING VARIANCE, VN-227. <br /> <br />variance for <br />Rear Yard Set- <br />back - VN-227 <br />Report #83-256 <br />RESOLUTION # <br />83-112 <br />
