<br />I <br /> <br />City of New Brighton <br />October ll, 1983 <br />Page Four <br /> <br />of this type of banner for any purpose. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schmidt stated he could understand where <br />the Planning Commission was coming from, that they <br />don't like signs, but that the Council had to inform <br />the public of upcoming events and that was difficult <br />without a community bulletin board. <br /> <br />Mayor Harcus stated that the banners help build a <br />sense of community. <br /> <br />Councilmember Benke stated that he supports banners <br />that promote civic activities, such as Stockyard Days, <br />or a banner promoting voting on the referendum. However, <br />he felt this type of banner was promoting a specific <br />interest. He questioned what the City would do if <br />someone of an opposing view point wanted to put a <br />similar banner up. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Councilmember Janecek stated that the Council did <br />give the firefighters their unofficial blessing for <br />this banner, and felt nothing should be done about <br />it at this point. <br /> <br />Motion by Harcus, seconded by Blomquist, to adjourn <br />at 8:10 p.m. <br /> <br />Adjournment <br />8:10 p.m. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes - motion carried <br /> <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br /> <br />Finance Director <br /> <br />1 <br />
