<br />J Sec. 21-22. Termination. <br /> <br />i; <br /> <br />(1) Involuntary TermifUltion. Employees may be involuntarily terminated for any reason at the <br />:! will of the City. The City will give the employee fourteen calendar days written notice of <br />termination or the financial equivalent of this notice period. <br /> <br />(2) Resignation. An employee must submit a written notice of resignation at least fourteen <br />calendar days prior to the date of resignation in order to receive tennination benefits. Failure to <br />I.. comply with this procedure may be considered cause for denying termination benefits and <br />future employment with the City. An unauthorized absence from work for a period of three <br />work days may be considered a resignation without notice. <br /> <br />(3) Retirement. The mandatory retirement age shall be seventy years of age. At the discretion of <br />the City Manager and subject to periodic reevaluation, a work extension may be granted beyond <br />:; the mandatory retirement age. A work extension shall be considered on an individual basis upon <br />!; request of the employee. An employee considered for an extension shall demonstrate physical <br />and mental competency to continue in the position. The request for a work extension will be <br />i. considered on an individual basis by the City Manager at least thirty calendar days prior to the <br />mandatory retirement age. An employee must submit a written notice of retirement at least <br />thirty calendar days prior to the date of retirement in order to retire in good standing. <br /> <br />Sec. 21-23. Political Activity. <br /> <br />(1) The political activities contained in this Section are specifically prohibited by employees. <br />Employees engaging in any of these activities shall be subject to disciplinary action. <br />j : A. Campaigning for a candidate or issue during prescribed work hours or while on City <br />business. <br />B. Attempting to influence a campaign by specifically alluding to the employee's position <br />with the City. <br />C. Participating in a campaign where such participation constitutes a conflict of interest <br />between the employee and the carrying out the duties prescribed in the employee's job <br />description. <br /> <br />(2) No employee of the City shall hold any other office or employment with the City, County, <br />State, or Federal government, or any division thereof, except that which does not interfere with <br />the impartial discharge of duties or result in the wielding of legislative or executive authority <br />~ ,. <br />over conditions of employment or over superiors. <br /> <br />(3) An employee who becomes a candidate for any elective office may be granted a leave of <br />absence without pay by the City Manager. The leave of absence shall be at the request of the <br />employee and shall not exceed ninety calendar days. <br /> <br />Sec.21-24. Criminal History and Driving Reconl Background Checks. <br /> <br />; (I) The City of New Brighton Police Department is authorized to conduct a criminal history <br />and driving record background investigation on any applicant who is a finalist for a paid or <br />volunteer position with the City of New Brighton. All finalist applicants must provide the City <br />of New Brighton with written authorization to investigate the applicant's criminal history and <br />! driving record, and provide the results to the Assistant City Manager. Any finalist applicant <br />i who does not grant the City written authorization to investigate the applicant's criminal history <br />and driving record will not be considered for the position. <br />
