The members of the <br />Department may adopt rules and regulations necessary to carry out <br />provisions of this ordinance and to insure the proper and effectiv <br />management of the Department. Such rules and regulations shall no <br />be inconsistent with this ordinance and shall be approved by the <br />city Council. <br /> <br /> <br />SECTION 220:25. Composition. The Department shall be compose <br />of no fewer than ten (10) members. The City Council s1all <br />I establish the maximum number of members in the annual operating <br /> <br />II budget. <br /> <br />I! SECTION 220 :30. Eliqibility and APpointments. Ih'.order to be <br />!I eligible for appointment to the Department, a personm~t be <br />Ii between the ages of eighteen (18) and thirty-five (35) years <br />'I of age~ must reside or work within the City and be available for <br />" fire alarm response; must pass a physical examination, and must <br />! have a valid driver I s license. The Department shall recommend to <br />! the City Manager appointments to the Department. In making its <br />recommendation the Department shall consider proximity of the . <br />II candidates p~ace of wO:k 0: :esidence,to fire stations or station <br />'I and the cand~dates ava~lab~l~ty for f~re response. The age <br />I, requirements may be waived upon recommendation of the Department <br />I and approval of the City Manager. <br /> <br />SECTION 220:35. Probationary Period. All newly hired member <br />lof the Department shall serve a one(l) year probationary periOd as <br />an apprentice firefighter. In .order to be eligible far promotion .0 <br />I the position of regular firefighter an apprentice firefighter must <br />lmake satisfactory progress in the learning of work tasks and must <br />have an ad.vanced first aid card. The Department may extend the <br />probationary periad for good cause. If an apprentice firefighter <br />does not successfully complete the probationary period, the <br />Departmentsh5111'recoioinend to the city Manager that such person <br />be dismissed. <br /> <br />.'" i, :. SEC'I'a: ON' , 220 :40. Selection of Offic.ers. Officers of the <br />Department, with the exception of the fire marshal, shall be elect <br />by vote of the members of the Department annually at an election t <br />,be held during the monthcQf November. Apprentice firefighters are <br />not eligible to be officers. The results of such election shall b <br />reviewed by the Manager who shall approve or reject such results. <br />If the Manager rejects the election results or shauld an officer <br />pasition be vacant, the Manager slallorder another election to be <br />[held for that position. <br /> <br />SECTION 220:42. Selection of Fire Marshal. The Chief shall <br />appoint the Fire Marshal for a one-year term subject to the approva <br />of the Manager. <br /> <br /> <br />SECTION 220:45.
