r. Approved
PLANNING COMMISSION PROCEEDINGS
CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON
Regular Meeting—May 17, 2005 at 7:30 p.m.
Present: Commissioners Larry Baker, Bruce Howard,Norm Schiferl, and
Tom O'Keefe,
Also Present: Patrick Boylan, City Planner and Mary Burg, City Council
• Agenda Review: No changes
• Approval of Minutes: The March 15, 2005 minutes were approved. Approval
of the April 19, 2005 minutes was tabled until the June 21, 2005 meeting.
• Council Action: City Council Member, Mary Burg reported that the Council
approved the Applewood Pointe Apartments, the New Brighton Office Building,
Lake Jones Apartments and Brighton Village projects.
Public Hearing: SP05-11 & LP05-07 Modify an Approved Special Use Permit
(SP0401 -& LP03-08)
Consideration of an amendment to the approved site plan and special use permit for the
new Beisswenger's Do It Best hardware store. The proposed change is for an expansion
in size of the outdoor"garden sales area" on the west side of the building. Since the
Council approved the special use permit in 2004, Mr. Beisswenger has a slight change in
business plans and now wishes to include used power equipment/gasoline engines for
sale in the garden sales area. The pond has changed shape and the number of"proof of
parking" spaces has increased. However, the remaining components of the site plan are
not proposed to be changed.
Mr. Norm Wells, Architect, approached the commission to answer questions regarding
recycling and the garden center. He also expressed his frustration with the problems with
getting the pond approved by the county. It delayed the start of construction and due to
increase building costs forced a change in the plans for the store.
Motion by Baker, Second by Schiferl to CLOSE THE PUBLIC HEARING.
4 Ayes, 0 Nays, MOTION CARRIED.
Motion by O'Keefe, Second by Schiferl to WAIVE THE READING AND ADOPT
THE ATTACHED RESOLUTION APPROVING SP05-11 and LP 05-07 subject to
the following condition:
I:\COMMISSIONS\PLANNING\Minutes\2005\5-17-05.doc 1
