Public Safety Commission <br />January 26, 2015 <br />Attending: Commissioner Allen, Commissioner Boyd, Commissioner Eichers, Commissioner <br />Hollimon, Commissioner Lamp, Commissioner Schumann, Director Jacobson, <br />and Council Member Burg <br />Absent: Commissioner Donohue, Commissioner Kerns, Commissioner Kocon <br />IhL <br />Call to Order/Roll Call <br />Commissioner Allen called the January meeting to order at 6:30 pm and roll call was taken. <br />November Meeting Minutes <br />I, <br />The November meeting minutes were reviewed. Commissioner Lamp made a motion to approve the <br />November meeting minutes; Commissioner Hollimon seconded. Motion carried. <br />Public Hearing/Presentation <br />A. Review of Parking Concern on Poppyseed Drive East of Long Lake Road <br />Director Jacobson introduced the parking concern on Poppyseed Drive, east of Long Lake Road, when <br />vehicles are parked on both sides of the street during school events, particularly football games, making <br />it difficult to impossible for emergency vehicles to pass. <br />Director Jacobson introduced Mr. Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets and Development. <br />Mr. Schlichting noted this area is a public safety concern, particularly during football games, when <br />vehicles park on both sides of the street. After a short presentation showing the area of concern, Mr. <br />Schlichting stated his recommendation is to add "No Parking" signs on the south side of Poppyseed <br />Drive and on the west side of Brittany Court during school events. <br />Mr. Dan Berkland, resident on Foxwood Ct, briefly spoke about his concerns regarding parking on <br />Poppyseed Drive. Mr. Berkland also noted the Irondale High School band event is also a time when <br />vehicles are parked on both sides of the street. Mr. Schlichting suggested the posting of temporary No <br />Parking signs for this one event. <br />Commissioner Lamp made a motion to accept Mr. Schlichting's recommendation to add "No Parking" <br />signs on the south side of Poppyseed Drive and on the west side of Brittany Court; Commissioner <br />Eichers seconded. <br />5 Ayes, 1 Nay (Schumann); Motion Carried <br />B. Crosswalk Study Update <br />Mr. Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets and Development, gave a brief review of the <br />history of the crosswalk on the 400 block of 10th Street NW. Mr. Schlichting also gave a brief update on <br />the proposed intersection modifications which will include the extension of the multi -use trail, LED <br />lighting, and a safer crosswalk. <br />
