<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br /> <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, April 8, 1997, at <br />7:30 p.m. in the municipal building, 803 Fifth Avenue NW. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, Councilmembers Gunderman, Larson, Samuelson and Williams. <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Margaret Egan, Finance Director <br />Matthew Fulton, City Manager <br />Les Proper, City Engineer <br /> <br />Council A~enda <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Samuelson, to APPROVE THE COUNCIL <br />AGENDA. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Motion by Samuelson, seconded by Larson, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />APPROVE THE MARCH 25, 1997, COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, with Council consent, received the minutes of the Public Safety <br />Commission - February 20, 1997. <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> <br />David Piggott, Metro East Development Partnership (MEDP), said the MEDP is a <br />regional economic development organization whose mission is to stimulate growth and <br />diversification of the economic base in Dakota, Ramsey and Washington Counties. The <br />partnership works with over 100 public and private entities. MEDP goals are to expand <br />the region's economic base by achieving capital investments of $60 million; increase <br />property tax base by $3.5 million; create or retain 3,000 quality jobs; utilize financial and <br />business resources to assist business growth; create awareness the region is a profitable <br />place to conduct business; and maintain high level of satisfaction with clients. <br /> <br />Benke asked Piggott to compare Minnesota and Wisconsin business climates. Piggott <br />believes Wisconsin is more conducive to businesses than Minnesota and allows companies <br />to generate profits which provide employment and increases property and sales tax base. <br /> <br />Motion by Samuelson, seconded by Larson, to ACCEPT AND THANK THE F AMIL Y <br />OF RAY GHILARDI FOR THEIR $1,000.00 DONATION TO THE NEW <br />BRIGHTON POLICE DEPARTMENT. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Council Agenda <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br /> <br />Special Order of <br />Business <br /> <br />MEDP Presentation <br /> <br />Ghilardi Donation <br />Report 97-073 <br />Resolution 97-021 <br />
