Grimshaw, Gunderman, Hogan, Olson, Council Repre- sentative Schmidt. Dahl arrived at 7:40, Johnson arrived at 7:35. Carlson, Solberg, Van Hatten Gunderman started an information session without a quorum. Robert Polzak, Long Lake resident, presented an .alternative. to selling the Long Lake. Park to Ramsey County. He suggested-that it may be possible to devise a lease agreement that would more adequately pro- tect the City's interests. Gunderman asked why. the County would be interested. Polzak used the $750,000 figure as a starting. Anderson told hrn that the $750,000 comes from Met Council.. Polzak said many things could be performed by the City rather than~the County. We went. and got a bond issue - we can do alot other things. One:~of the negatives-is that once you transfer the money, there is nothing to go on in 10-15 years... As times and conditions change, ideas and people change. With this concept you can beat it. You are going to get .your money worth. Sometime in the future you will have a chance to regroup. ~~ Johnson said he agrees with that approach. He thinks about it from a business standpoint and New Brighton's future. Gunderman asked if the idea could be sold to the County. Johnson said we own the Land. The park will never be developed with- out our consent. The land is our trump card. Val Burdick, resident at 1694 14th. Ave. NV'7, said the County has the option of protecting their investment by maintenance, etc. This allows them to continue. Right now - control stays here. County's interest. is in value and maintenance of that lease-hold. If they maintain, they have something they want to protect. Gunderman commented that he never. heard any Park Board member say they wanted to give up local control. Burdick said that if the City sells the land, it is giving up control. Polzak said .the buy out plan works here. We develop and take over plan. We take over what the County does for us. Everything will change eventually, then will have to regroup. Buy out plan buys additional time for the County.
