Board and Commission Section Activities
,~ ~ ~.~.
Gunderman explained to the Board that the M.R.P.A. Board and
Commission Section has met several times to plot a course of action
for x_973. He requested that the Park Board submit suggestions for
activities for the coming year. He stated that one area had already
been discussed9 that of attempting to influence legislature at the
state level. L•?hich will have an effect on the field of Parks and
Recreation. There was some question as to how this would be imple-
mented as there was a potential for conflict of interest with the
M.R.P.A. in some areas.
Dahl suggested that the Board and Commission Section consider the
problem of the interrelationship of the many agencies involved in
the field of Parks and Recreationy such as watershed boards, the
Metropolitan Council, the Department of Natural Resources, etc.
She stated that there was a great deal of overlap in the efforts of
these groups without any interface among them.
Cook suggested, along the same lines, that some efforts be made to
coordinate the many trails systems amongst municipalities and other
units of government.
Dahl asked if anything were being done to assist communities who are
just beginning involvement in the provision of Park and Recreation
services. She stated that developing a resource bank and/or a
speakers bureau could be of great assistance to communities in this
position.
