SPECIAL PARK BOARD MEETING
June 10, 1970
The meeting was called to order at 8:17
Board Members present: Barnhill, Dahl, Gunderman, Sherlock, Smith,
Council Representative Moen
Hagemeyer appeared at $:30
Absent: Weissman
Also Present: Arthur Dickey, ArcYiitect, and Robert Wicklund, Director
of Parks and Recreation
Long Lake Site Acquisition
The status of the condemnation proceedings for the Long Lake properties
was explained to the Board. The awards will be made by the Commission
on or before July 31, 1970. From the time of the award each side has
40 days within which to appeal those awards. If the Village wishes
to abandon its decision to condemn it must do so within that 40 day
period or it has bought the land regardless of the outcome of future
appeals. The Village Attorney feels that appeals on two or three of
the properties is likely because of the large range between the
appraisals brought in by .each side.
Cne parcel, a 40 foot lot in the Boardman Addition, has been settled.
Seventh Street Buildin
Mr. Dickey explained that during meetings with the Director of Parks
and Recreation it had become evident there was a misunderstanding as
to the completion date far a permanent structure at Seventh Street,
It had been his original intent to begin construction in early spring
of 1971 for use in winter 1971-?2. The Board on the other hand was
planning for use of the structure by winter 1970-71. An accelerated
work schedule would be possible according to Mr. Dickey based on the
following estimated time table:
July 1 - concept sketches for entire community center
August 10 - working drawings of shelter phase
September 1 advertise and accept bids
September. l5 - begin construction
Completion of the building could be expected in from two to four
months.
Mr. Gu~derman asked if the other work on the site would be completed
in time for the skating season. If the ~:~ork goes according to contract
and barring unusual delays such as the driver's strike which held up
commencement of construction for one month, the work will be completed
in time. , ,~, ~~}ob ~.6"~~ .~,,A `•Z
`~'~ 11~~
P
