3 <br />Special Park Board Meeting <br />October 21, 1970 <br />The meeting was called to order at $s05 P.M. <br />Board Members presents Dahl, Gunderman, Hagemeyer, Sherlock, Smith <br />Absents Barnhill, Weissman <br />Also Presents Robert in]icklund, Director of Parks and Recreation <br />Dahl asked that the minutes of October 7, 1970 be corrected to read <br />"a decision on the winners in the Name the Park Contest will be made <br />on approximately November l0" instead of definitely November 10. <br />The minutes of October 7, 1970 were then approved as corrected. The <br />minutes of October 14, 1970 were approved as submitted. <br />Richard Hansen Memorial <br />John Jantzen of the New Brighton Jaycees appeared to bring the <br />Park Board up to date on the project to install two rest shelters <br />in Hansen Park as a memorial. He stated the funding was at the <br />60-70 percent level. Donations are still being accepted and Board <br />members can mail checks, made out to Dick Hansen Memorial Fund, to <br />John Jantzen, 1763 5th Street N.W., New Brighton if they wish to <br />contribute. <br />Mr. Jantzen reviewed the proposed locations with the Board.. One <br />shelter with an attached sign is to be placed at the 5th Street and <br />16th Avenue entrance and the other shelter without a sign is to be <br />placed near the center of the park by the free skating pond. The <br />time schedule still calls for completion this fall. The Board <br />expressed its approval of the project and requested that the <br />administration plan a formal dedication when the project is complete. <br />Planninq Commission <br />Gunderman asked that this item be placed on the agenda and discussed <br />immediately. He stated that he had received a letter from Eugene <br />Partyka, chairman of the New Brighton Planning Commission, requesting <br />some type of formal communication process be set up between the Park <br />Board and Planning Commission. The suggestion was made by the <br />Planning Commission that representatives be appointed to attend each <br />others meetings as both bodies are now involved in a comprehensive <br />planning procedure. Wickland and Dahl were designated to attend the <br />November 5 Planning Commission meeting. <br />Attendance <br />Gunderman brought up the problem of Park Board attendance as a <br />result of the lack of a quorum at the last meeting. He suggested the <br />possibility of setting up some guidelines for replacing people due <br />to lack of attendance. Sherlock. suggested that all Board members <br />
