Special Park Board Meeting <br />November 24, 1970 <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:50 p.m. <br />Board Members Present: Barnhill, Dahl, Gunderman, Hagemeyer, <br />Sherlock, Smith, Weissman and <br />Council Representative Moen <br />Also Present: Eugene Partyka and Ray Bohling - Planning Commission <br />Dick Daniels - Citizen Study Commission <br />Don Brauer and Chuck Hefty - Brauer and Associates <br />Art Dickey -Arthur Dickey and Associates <br />Robert Wicklund, Director of Parks and Recreation <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of November 4, 1970 were approved <br />as submitted. <br />Name the Park Winners <br />The Park Board officially awarded the prizes to the winners of the <br />Name the Park contest. Receiving $25:.00 prizes were: <br />Elizabeth Olson - Sunny Square (Sunnyside site) <br />Gary Dahle - Creekview (Rice Creek site) <br />Charlotte Piche - Freedom Park (Pike Lake site) <br />Dale Olson - Totem Pole Park (Foss Road site) <br />Agenda Additions <br />Added to the agenda were the following items: <br />Discussion of Long Lake <br />Opening of Hansen Park Road <br />Discussion of Long Range Planning <br />Long-Range Planning <br />Gunderman reviewed the results of conversations with representatives <br />of the Citizen's Study Committee. He stated that a beginning had been <br />made in terms of communication between the various advisory commission <br />and with the comprehensive planning processes going on at this time <br />it was important to maintain that communication. Mr. Daniels of the <br />Citizen's Study Committee stated that his group had turned down a <br />request for a tax study to continue working on long-range planning. <br />A meeting with all the various commissions to discuss long-range <br />planning and use of liquor revenues is being scheduled. Dahl informed <br />the Board that the Planning Commission was meeting an December 1, 19'0 <br />and rectuested a representative from the Park Board be present. Dah' <br />volunteered to attend. <br />Park and Recreation Trends <br />Don Brauer of Brauer and Associates presented a projection of future <br />trends relating to the field of parks and recreation.
