The city has
talked about a hotel far the last 20 years, Now there is a
possibility of 2 hotels in New Brighton. There is not enough
money far both - it will be one or the other. They will be
on consideration for the next Council Meeting. The hotel being
considered for the downtown area would be the quality of the
Hilton or better. The other possible location on Hwy. 96 &
Old Hwy. 8 would be smaller; more on the hotel suite basis.
Soth would have meeting rooms and a restaurant. They would
have two different developers. The city is trying to facilitate.
the downtown project because of its importance but also wants
to get bonding far the other.
B. The City did about $15,000 worth of tests and when they dug
in, they found the tar pollution to be more extensive than they
anticipated and more liquid. No chemicals were found or they
could have refused to take it at the disposal site.
The City Manager talked to the County Board because they had been
criticizing the city for selling them a bad deal.
Anderson said the city would like to give the county a tour of
Long Lake and smooth over same bad feelings and lack of communication
between the policy makers. Anderson believes if we get them out
and look at the area they will be impressed.
Anderson stated there have been residents complaining about the
parking up by Irondale. Signs went up and the Park and Recreation
Department will have a letter going out to the coaches regarding
the problem. Tennis and baseball players have abused the parking.
