NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD
MINUTES
..JULY 2, 1986
I. The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Chairman Johnson.
II. Members present: Blomquist, Eichers, Johnson, Kalina(8:45), Olson,
Rose, Council Rep. Williams
absent: Carlson, Seward, Van Hatten
III. Minutes
A. Minutes of June 4, 198.6
MOTION BY BLOMQUIST, SENCONDED BY OLSON, TO APPROVE THE
MINUTES OF JUNE 4, 1986 AS SUBMITTED. MOTION CARRIED.
IV. Correspondence
A. Council Report
Council Representative Williams stated he missed the
June 24th meeting because he was on vacation. He said
Long Lake Road was a big issue. The northern part of the
road is to be developed this year and southern part next
year.
The Council again discussed Veterans Park. The City purchased
the property behind the fire station. The Planning Commission
is .looking at a special use permit to use the property for
parking. Hopefully it will not be a problem. This provides
flexibility to take up the overflow for City Hall parking.
At the July 22nd meeting the Council will have a recommendation
from the Planning Commission for parking on the property.
The Council then discussed the whole Vets Park area. Williams
said he pressed the Council to be specific as to what they
wanted and what the Park Board direction was. There was a
resident petition started by the Bona's to start the develop-
ment of the park. Tony Bona said he would like to see the
playground started as his top priority. Williams suggested
the Park Board reevaluate what you and the Council have been
through and consider the smaller parking lot, the possibility
of vacating 3rd Avenue and determine who the users will be.
Come up-with a master plan"for the park.
Blomquist said the plan the Park Board agreed on took all of
those things into consideration - it was all talked about at
the last Park Board meeting and a final plan was approved.
Williams said some of the Council mem b'ers feel the plan is too
cluttered.
Anderson said he met with Bill Midness of Damon Farber regarding
the Park Board's recommendation for the plan. There was only
one variable. An overlay would be presented of the 3rd AVe.
issue. The rest of the plan we had a good idea from the Park
Board as to what they wanted. If the Park Board wanted to see
the plan before it goes to the Council that could be arranged
but there is nothing new in there. Did not reduce any of the
"clutter" because Anderson and Midness did not feel it was
cluttered. It may have looked that way - the hard edges on
the plan will be removed.
