l~
d
~, '~ NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD
MINUTES
JUNE 4, 1986
I. The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Chariman Johnson
II. All members were present; Council Rep. Williams. was absent
III. Minutes
A. MOTION BY BLOMQUIST, SECONDED BY ROSE TO APPROVE THE
MAY 7, 1986 MINUTES AS SUBMITTED. MOTION CARRIED.
B. MOTION BY VAN HATTEN, SECONDED BY SEWARD, TO APPROVE
THE VETERANS PARK MEETING MINUTES OF MAY 7, 1986 as
SUBMITTED. MOTION CARRIED.
IV. Correspondence
A. Council Report
Council Representative Williams was absent. Anderson said
the Council generally supported Veterans Plan but weren't
willing to make a commitment to closing 3rd Ave. Residents
were opposed to the closing. The Council recommended a
study and then come back with a recommendation.
It was noted that the Park Board had already done that and
their recommendation was to close 3rd Avenue.
Anderson stated he had talked with Father Grieman of St. John's
regarding the Veterans Park issue and the closing of 3rd Ave.
Anderson said the Council was not comfortable with the Veterans
Park Plan with the other plans for downtown development, i.e.
the hotel and senior high rise. The Council wanted those
decisions made before the park decision. The Council wanted
the parking lot issue resolved.
Anderson said he received a call from Tony Bona supporting
the park. He submitted a letter with signatures supporting
the park.
Blomguist said she was under the impression we would go ahead
with the planning.
Anderson said the plan that the Park Board and Couniil seemed
to favor would be appropriate whether or not the hotel or high rise
went in.
Seward thought the planning would continue also.
Anderson said not-after the last Council meeting.
