1 <br />`~ 1 NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD MINUTES <br />~'~ MAY 7, 1986 <br />I. The meeting was called to order at 8:OOpm by Park Board Chair Johnson <br />II. All members were present. <br />III. Minutes <br />A. Motion by Van Hatten, Seconded by Carlson to approve the April 2, <br />1986 minutes as submitted. <br />IV. Correspondence <br />A. Council Report <br />Williams stated the new Park Board member, Barbara Kalina, <br />from the Silver Oak area was approved. <br />The Council went through-the Veterans Park plan. The concern <br />was the ball diamond because the park looked. like it had too <br />many activities for the size. They felt the ball diamond <br />traffic could be moved to another area - possibly Hypro even <br />though that may be a liability problem. If the downtown <br />development includes a hotel and senior housing, the use <br />of Veterans could change from active to more passive; walking, <br />concerts, etc. The Council is open to these. The ball field <br />could be kept for a few years with the possibility of it being <br />phased out if the use is not continued. Williams said he was <br />surprised at the number of residents at the Veterans Park meeting <br />that expressed interest in watching the ball games. <br />Ken Johnson suggested the Park Board members introduce themselves <br />to new member Barbara Kalina. <br />B. Long Lake Advisory Committee <br />Johnson said there was a short discussion about the beach opening <br />and the fees to be charged. The discussion then moved into the <br />boat launch again. The temporary boat launch plan was discussed <br />(would only be in effect for the summer). The plan shows parking <br />places right next to the waters edge, this prevents any more than <br />5 vehicles with trailers from parking. Signs would have to be <br />posted for people to Leave there cars parked there. Other vehicle <br />would continue to park along the road. <br />Carlson said this was a good way to self regulate the number of <br />motorized watercraft on the lake. The permanent plan would have <br />10 more spaces. There was discussion also about marking the <br />street parking "no parking to trailered vehicles". <br />Seward asked whose idea this was. <br />Carlson said Ramsey County's. <br />Johnson said the Lucky Seven Bass Club donated $1,000, plus <br />labor for a fishing dock. The bike trail to the beach from <br />the west is not completed. <br />
