NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD
MINUTES
MAY 5, 1993
I. Meeting was called to order at 7:35pm by Chair Olson
II. Members present: Carlson, Eichers, Kinzie, Ocel, Olson, Council Rep.
Williams, Dave Childs, City Manager, Jim O'Brien, Architect with Williams
and O'Brien for Family Center
Members absent: Helgeson, Kalina, Knuth, Trevorrow
III. Minutes of March 3, 1993
MOTION BY KINZIE, SECONDED BY ETCHERS, TO APPROVE THE
MARCH 3, 1993 MINUTES AS SUBMITTED. MOTION CARRIED.
IV. Correspondence
A. Council Report
Dave Childs gave the Council report. Sub division on Long Lake Road
wanted park dedication plan changed so they could do one lot at a
time. Council said no.
U.S. West building is going up, also Remele Engineering.
The nursing home across from City Hall will be expanding. Dentist
office, Chiropractic Office, Chinese Restaurant will be purchased by
the City. There is a $350,000 block grant to help buy those
properties. Rottlund Homes may be building 74 townhomes. They are
hoping to start on the north end in August. The design is the same as
the one in Falcon Heights north of Larpenteur and east of Cleveland.
They were all sold before they were finished. There is a problem with
the soil from the dry cleaners area. Should know the results of the
testing tomorrow. John Ordway, the same person who built the
Stoney Lake Office Buildings, is the designated designer of the
property from City Hall to Hwy. 10.
B. Multi City Senior Center
Olson said the Senior Center Task Force went to the Metropolitan
Council Parks and Open Space Commission for approval of locating the
project in a regional park.
Anderson explained that the land can only be used for open space and
preservation and used by implementing agencies. Having the Senior
Center on this property goes against this policy. They are afraid of
getting a flood gate of requests for building on open space land if they
allow this one. On the other hand they like the shared senior center
idea.
