The area of the Brighton Village Shopping Center formerly occupied by a grocery
store has been vacant since August of 1999. The departure of that business has prompted
. the City to undertake a number of studies to evaluate viable uses and potential developments
;for the study area to assure that it will continue to be a viable and important commercial area
and will not become blighted or deteriorated or a cause of disinvestment in the community.

1.04. Therefore the council has further detennined that there is a need for additional studies
and hearings to be conducted so that the city may adopt appropriate amendments to its
comprehensive plan, zoning code and official controls so as to ensure protection of the
public, health, safety and welfare. The council has directed that such studies and hearings
: be continued.

I:\SHAR1'p\COUNCIL\ORDINANC\Draft\Brighton Village Moratorium.doc
