October 4, 1989 Park Board Minutes
4
Kalina asked if a list of things discussed at the Steering
Committee could be brought back to the Park Board at the
November meeting.
Anderson said he would like to know what the Park Board
wants so he could bring that to the Steering Committee
tomorrow. We are going through the steps of whether we have
a site or not. Hope that we don't lose the opportunity for
the Park Board to be involved.
Van Hatten asked what expertise do we have that you want.
Anderson said it would be similar to the input the Park
Board has when designing a park. The Task Farce is doing
the same kinds of things that the Park Board does during the
park design process. Do you want to meet with the Task
Force? Or have representatives on the Task Force? Staff is
willing to .listen to the Park Board.
Johnson stated that this is probably one of the biggest
things the Park Board will be involved in.
Kalina asked if the Task Force will be active again.
Anderson said yes.
Van Hatten asked why the Task Force was formed.
Anderson said they wanted a wide view of needs assessment.
Van Hatten said he would like to make suggestions and review
proposals.
Johnson said a model and some details will be available in
March for-the bond issue.
Van Hatten said that perhaps the Park Board could be a
sounding board.
Johnson said the committee has looked at a lot of community
centers. We have set guidelines for the architects. We may
have to meet more than once a month.
Van Hatten said that would be fine. Maybe this is the role
we should take.
Anderson threw out the idea of having the Task Force and
Park Board meet together when the Task Force meets with the
architect on October 19th. Don't want the Park Board to
have to react to decisions already made.
