October 4, 1989 Park Board Minutes
7
A shelter, 30 x 40' is now planned. There are three
possible sites. I am recommending the site #1 west of the
current shelter building.
Johnson asked if that is where the Stockyard Days tent has
been set up.
Anderson said it would be about 100 ft. from it. This area
will drain better. Also the old tent area is an access for
the maintenance equipment and the skaters going back and
forth to the rink. Also there are electrical wires buried
underneath that site and it would mean re-routing.
Johnson asked if the shelter could be located between site #
1 and #2.
Anderson said the map is deceiving - there really isn't
room.
Anderson said site #1 is the best because the closer to the
building the better for wiring. There will be aobut 10 or
15 feet between the new building and the old one.
Kalina stated that #3 would not be an an option because of
the distance from the building.
Anderson said with the new shelter we can provide picnic
facilities for two groups at once.
Van Hatten asked if this new shelter would be larger than
the current open air shelter.
Anderson said yes.
Anderson asked if it will have electricity. Anderson said
yes, in the future.
MOTION BY VAN HATTEN, SECONDED BY CARLSON, TO APPROVE THE
PICNIC SHELTER AT HANSEN PARK ON SITE #1.
Van Hatten said the soils seem to be a problem, what kind of
supports will be used for this new shelter?
Anderson said floating slab will be used. it is a light
weight structure. Fill was brought in when the tennis
courts were constructed so the soil in that area is stable.
MOTION CARRIED.
