April 5, 1989 Park Board Minutes Page 3
Ingram said not to dredge because it will break the seal.
He also asked if a foot bridge could be put in.
Anderson said the Engineering Department said it was not
needed.
Mark Sova, 1191 Pike Lake Dr., commented that he did not see
the need for an 8 ft. path. A 4 ft. path would be
sufficient and would save on the cost. He doesn't see the
need for an emergency vehicle to be able to drive on the
path. He is in favor of the path - he is a runner but since
the trail is just a feeder into the park he sees no need for
it to be 8 ft. wide.
Sova also commented that he was interested in the
reprocessing of water that will be draining into the lake.
Anderson said the reason we chose and 8 ft. path is because
that is the standard width for a combined bicycle/pedestrian
path. We would save by cutting back but not 50%. The 8 ft.
width is for safety and liability reasons. Don't think the
City Council would change that.
Anderson asked Sova if he was referring to storm water
draining into the lake.
Sova said he was referring to the aquifer that was polluted
and would be reprocessed and then go into the lake.
Anderson. said the Park Board does not deal with that issue.
Gordon Asselstene,_1073 Pike Lake Dr., inquired if
additional money was going to the church.
Anderson said staff's agreement to the Council is to
reconstruct the church driveway. There is no additional
money being paid to the church.
Lee Erickson, 1029 Pike Lake Dr., asked how extensive the
plantings would be.
Anderson said, where possible, there will be mass shrubbery
the full length of the noise wall a It has been observed
that where there are shrubs the graffiti is not as bad.
There will be a mixture of conifers and hardwoods planted
the spring of 1990. The forester will do the plantings.
The plantings will blend in with what is already there.
Judy Lamp, 1144 Pike Lake Circle, asked if snowmobiles and
motorcycles can get through at the entrance.
Anderson said hinged posts with a padlock will be put in.
There will be an opening on the side which would be large
enough for a snowmobile or motorcycle.
