March 1, 1989 Park Board Minutes
4
This would be split between three cities which is a good deal.
The property was at one time on the surplus property list but has
been taken off. It may go back on the surplus property list
because of our proposal.
Anderson said he is optimistic that this may go through.
Johnson asked why the city is involved.
Anderson said we need a baseball field and soccer field in New
Brighton. Arden Hills is the lead community in this. Their
needs are the greatest.
Olson asked if there would be picnic facilities for tournaments.
Anderson said there would be picnic tables, toilets, play area
and concession.
Kalina asked if there would be room for spectators.
Anderson said yes. There is room for bleachers, there is about
100' between fields.
Gunderman asked_if-the area would be fenced..
Anderson said yes..
Eichers asked-if-the Army is willing to do this because of the
water problem.
Anderson said it would be good public relations for them.
Gunderman asked if there are any soil problems.
Anderson said no testing has been done but they are not aware of
any problems.
Johnson said he is having difficulty discussing dollars for this
site when we are discussing the armory too.
Anderson said we are. not talking money yet. If this is approved
and we get permission, then we come back and ask for money. If we
get permission, it will go in with our other CIP items. Arden
Hills, Mounds View, New Brighton and Shoreview all are going to
their councils and park boards with this proposal.
The three cities most involved will use it pretty much to
capacity.
Van Hatten said it could be used as an Olympic facility.
Anderson said no action was required.
