March 1, 1989 Park Board Minutes
C. Pike Lake Trail Update
5
Gunderman stated the freeway noise walls will be repainted a
sandalwood or beige color. The back side will be painted too.
Anderson said part of the trail follows a dedicated street
easement. If the property was developed, part of the trail would
have to be relocated. The path was brought away from the wall to
lower property to avoid bringing in fill because it would cost
about $10,000 for fill. There are a few spots where we have to
go close to the wall, about 3 to 5 feet but shrubbery will still
be put in. The church driveway will be rebuilt by the city as a
purchase for the church's easement. The trail will be raised
about 18" above the driveway and will be curbed. The driveway is
19' which is code. The budget for this trail was set at $15,000
but the price has now gone up to $35,000. Would like to do this
this fall. We have an agreement in principle with the church but
the council needs to formally approve.
Anderson asked the park board if they see anything more we can do
for the residents. We've planted, moved the trail down to
conserve costs, had wall painted and secured necessary easements.
Anderson asked if there should be another. meeting with the
residents before it goes to the city council.
Kalina asked about the herons.
Anderson said by moving the path down we move closer to the
herons but we are saving on construction costs.
Johnson said asked if construction time would conflict with the
herons.
Anderson said he would have to check his notes.
Gunderman said we always have opposition to projects.
Johnson said he is not so sure that having another meeting would,
be beneficial.
Anderson said the numbers went down the second meeting. If we
have another meeting we can ask if there is anything we can do.
Would like to diffuse any problems before it gets to the council.
Johnson said they were afraid of lake access. Felt a flyer would
accomplish the same thing as a meeting.
Kalina asked if the salt runoff to the lake had been taken care
of .
Anderson said yes there is a new street sweeping policy.
Anderson said he would like to send everything to the .council at
one time.
