October 5, 19.88 Park Board Minutes.
Anderson said the City Engineer said there is-.
5
Gary Balego, 1320 Pike Lake Circle, asked to whose benefit is
this trail? You mentioned a little quadrant of people. Would
like to know how many will be served. ATV's and snowmobiles
were mentioned but no mention of summer use. Pike Lake is
very small; increasing-use will be dangerous. The lake bottom
is platted and have concerns for liability for the property
owners.
Anderson -said we
lake bottom being
because that lake
Attorney that the
lake was drained.
it doesn't change
cent through this same argument about the
.platted with the Long Lake development
is also platted. We were told by the City
only time it will be a problem is if the
If someone broke his neck on your property
whether it is bottom platted or not.
Anderson said he doesn't think the path will encourage lake
use. If people want to use the lake they will comedown the
creek in a canoe. Don't think you will see an increase in
lake use because of .this trail.
Anderson said there is access to the lake for snowmobiles
now - they can come down the creek. The access is already
there and snowmobile use probably won't increase. The City
has an ordinance against-snowmobiles on the trail.
A resident asked how a snowmobile could .come in on the creek,
there is a dam there.. Anderson said he didn't know how but
they have access now.
Resident disagreed.
Anderson said that snowmobiles in New Brighton have not been
much of an issue in recent years. The only problem we have is
with enforcement is on Long Lake because it is so large.
Brown asked what percentage of people would be served.
Anderson said a small amount, about 10%.
Ken Johnson told Anderson he disagreed with him. I run and I
would use that trail. I run at 6:00am and see a dozen other
runners and some senior citizens.
Seward commented that there will be some new residents behind
Minar Ford - they will use the trail.
Johnson said our society is more health conscious. Believe
more and more people will be using the trail system.
Marilyn Rose, 1539 12th Terr., There is a steep incline down.
to the lake. Will there be something there to keep people
.from falling-off the trail. It may have to be fenced.
What if the bids are higher than $20,000.
