October 5, 1988 Park Board Minutes
6
Anderson said he doesn't intend to fence the steep area.. The
water is not that deep. there. We may put in a~retaining wall.
If it appears it might be a problem we could fence it. If the.
bids come in higher than $20,000 it is the Council's decision
whether .they want to continue with the project.
Diane B-town, 1120 Pike Lake Cir., Who pays for this project?
Anderson said there is $15,0-00 in the Capital Improvement
Project to pay for this project. This is a City project, not a
Park Board project.
Johnson inquired about money from .Long Lake Park.
Anderson said interest from that money is used first for
operation of the boat launch and beach. Second priority is
park property improvements and third is park operating budget.
The bottom line is when we do a City-project, the residents.
:are paying - it's for their benefit.
Dana Brandt added that many donations have been responsible
for the funds, i.e. the Lions. Club. About $40,000 in
donations has been received this year.
Stan McDonald, 1189 Pike Lake Dr., What thought is given to
maintenance of the trail. The history of things getting done
at Pike Lake is not good. The DNR won't stock the lake
because -there is no .access.. There is silt going-into the
lake. The .lake is polluted. 'The City said it's not their
problem. What things will the City do to guarantee this trail
will be well- maintained.
John Seward asked how putting in a trail will cause pollution
in the lake.
Goodrich said he saw a mattress and other things that are not
attractive. Because we are a minority we are not heard.. We
want to protect this area.
Anderson-said we have a very good track record of maintaining
our parks. Compare ours with other communities. You'll see
unattractive things now but once the trail goes in the City
treats it as a park. It will be maintained. You've got my
-word on it. That's the-way we do business. Can't do anything.
for you about the siltation. I understand your frustration.
This is an issue that the City really can't handle, usually
has to go to a higher agency..
Brandt said there is no question about maintenance in the
parks.- We are very committed to parks and have received a
good r-sting from residents.
