October 5, 1988 Park .Board Minutes 8 Bonnie Meyer said she does not think a dollar has been spent on wild life concerns. Tailings have been dumped into the lake. Others don't care about the lake.. Van Hatten said we do care-about the lake. Seward said that progress moves on. We need places for people to walk off the street. Bonnie-Meyer - But what aboutthe wild life? I'm very .fond of wild. life. Anderson said if the area is developed for homes the herons will be gone. The trail will have less impact on them. Johnson said if there is too much traffic 'for the herons will .they relocate in the same area? Anderson said he didn't know. The largest heron population is in a much more heavily populated area. .They seem to take people traffic well. Taking trees down is what is threatening, to the .herons. Johnson asked if more trees than necessary would be .planted. Anderson said more trees will be put in, almost a solid barrier of trees and bushes over 5 years. Goodrich said .they haven't heard from the senior citizens or Harstad development area. Were these people notified of this meeting? Were they in favor of this trail? Johnson said we typically don't see the people at these meetings who are in favor of something. Anderson said they were notified. Loyal. Rose stated he is a senior citizen. The seniors are always looking for more and more trails. -Maybe when you get to be a senior you'll appreciate them too. Doris Ocel said her mother walks every morning. She would use this trail. Goodrich said he sees many seniors .walk down by his area but .don't think they will go .all the way to Long Lake Park. Orson said her mother walks about 5 miles a day. Not. all will take the trail into Long Lake Park but they may go as far as the church. :Van Hatten asked Anderson how far it is `from road to road. - Anderson said about 1/2 mile.
