.October 5, 1988 Park Board Minutes 9
A resident asked if the existing graffiti will be removed.
Anderson said. we contacted DOT & asked to have it repainted.
I-would guess it will be removed but it is not something the
City will do but could if the Council decided they wanted to.
Johnson said they are going to change the color of the wall on
the .outside. Do people have a concern for the color on the
inside.
One resident responded green.
Brandt .stated the Council is supposed to vote on the color.
It will not be any of the same colors.
Johnson asked if there were any more questions. .Hearing none,
the hearing was closed.
Johnson asked if any action was necessary.
Anderson said yes. He would like the Park Board to-make a
recommendation to the Council.
MOTION BY VAN HATTEN, SECONDED BY OLSON, TO APPROVE THE PIKE
LAKE TRAIL CONCEPT. PLAN WITH THE ADDTTION THAT THE GRAFFITI BE
REMOVED-FROM THE NOISE WALL.
Brandt suggested that when this comes to the Council the
concept plan should incorporate moving the path away from the
wall to get the bushes in.
Johnson suggested planting shrubs that will be tall to
minimize the graffiti. Initially thought it would be best to
have the trail next to the .wall but now he thinks moving it
away from the wall to plant shrubs is a good idea..
Van Hatten asked if there are any other trails in the Twin
Cities that have trails next to the wall.
Anderson thought perhaps Woodlake in Richfield.
Olson said no, there are none there.
Anderson said he could check it out.
Anderson said it's not that difficult to plant shrubs and it
would help with aesthetics.
Brandt said that it may also be more comfortable running or
walking along the trail if it were moved away from the wall.
Brown asked if it were appropriate to mention that the
:resident's concerns be mentioned in the motion so the Council
-would know our concerns.
Johnson said they do. get a copy of the Park .Board minutes
which includes the residents comments.
