May 4, 1988 Park Board Minutes

Anderson said there has to be a siltation control to
prevent runoff regardless of when the project is done.
It will likely be a fall project.
Anderson said there is still work to be done to obtain
the easement. Will get a topography map and find out
what we will do. In the mean time if anyone wants to
work with me on the plans to come back to the Park
Board, give me a call. We will send you people
information and give you opportunity to comment on the
specific plan at another meeting.
Dietmar Rose said he had a complete list of people in
the association which he turned in to Maurie.
A resident asked for a contact person at the church.
Anderson said he hesitates to give names out but then
added that Jeffrey Benson, and Bob Peterson are church
board members and John Buttrey is the Pastor.
Anderson said the way the process works with the .church
is that the trustees make a recommendation to the
congregation and post notice for four consecutive
Sundays then a meeting is held and the congregation
votes and makes the decision.
Johnson said perhaps the May 19th meeting on community
trends would be the place to get input on this and
build comments into the plans.
Anderson said something could be included in the survey
regarding trails in general. Don't want a referendum
on this issue. Decisions need to be made by June 15 or
not until September.
A resident asked if all residents were opposed to this
project could it go through?
Anderson said this project has not progressed to the
point where it is a definite. It can come up or down
at any time. If the church refuses the easement we
probably won't do it. The City Council and Park Board
also balance the rights of the unheard people, try to
balance all the needs equally. The people who oppose a
project show up at the meeting and usually you don't
hear those that are indifferent.
Dietmar Rose asked if this project is really needed?
Why do it? There are good alternatives to a trail.
There is no evidence that anyone really wants this.
