May 4, ].988 Park Board Minutes

Anderson said this is typical. In developing Meadow
Wood, Driftwood, Innsbruck, no one person really
favored these but now they are heavily used. I'm
biased, I like parks. I wish we didn't work in a
vacuum as much as we do. We scheduled neighborhood
park meets with the Park Board and staff present at
each park. We did extensive publicity and we averaged
about 5 people per park.
Van Hatten said he wanted to thank everyone for coming.
We don't always know what we are voting for. Didn't
know about the bird issue, I'm glad it was brought up.
It is obvious you want quality, you want this project
done right, thank you for expressing your concerns.
Resident Goodrich said no one has mentioned that in New
Brighton we have added 1000 run off land. This is one
more area where we will have run off along with the
streets, parking lots, roofs, there has been a lot of
fluctuation in that lake. This would be another
increment. It won't add to the salt burden as long as
it is not maintained in the winter.
Kannankutty said his patio is in a flood plane. He has
flood insurance - he qualified for it. It is a
concern.
Carolyn Kreibich said water is a problem, had rising
water on two occasions; a little more blacktop could
bring it up again.
Johnson said we could check with the Rice Creek
Watershed District.
Anderson said that a project of this size they probably
won't work with but we will work with Les Proper, City
Engineer. Could pond toward noise wall instead of into
the lake. You may add 1/2 inch of water - a very small
amount. We would reduce sedimentation because it would
be maintained. Part of the process is to check with
the Rice Creek Watershed District.
Anderson said this will probably be on the July agenda.
We will send notices out.
Jerry Meyer said he would like a list of the people
here tonight.
