y
May 4, 1988 Park Board Minutes ~
Ocel commented that in Fridley there is a little lake
and the trail goes by the townhouses and in people's
back yards. Have never seen litter, or people sitting
around. It looks very nice.
Henry Larson, 1267 Pike Lake Drive, said both comments
are a different set of situations. Our concern is
people will see the open area near Mr. Palmers property
and want to party. If it were part of the park it
would be no problem but it is not.
Johnson said 2.4 acres could be turned into park.
Larson said he would prefer to leave it the way it is.
What are the impacts on bird populations such as the
rare blackcrowned night heron which nests on the south
side of our lake?
Anderson asked if they knew for sure these were nesting
herons. They responded yes.
A resident said you see the birds only if no one is out
in their yard
Anderson said he would be more than willing to talk to
someone about the impact.
Johnson asked if the DNR could help.
Anderson said yes, probably.
Are the expected benefits worth spending our tax
dollars?
Anderson said again this is subjective but he thinks
so.
Who would reap these benefits?
People from the area west of Pike Lake.
If the trail were developed, would the city need to
control and monitor use of the lake by non-residents
and would it be willing to monitor lake use?
The city is monitoring high speed power boats on Long.
If boats became a severe problem on Pike Lake - things
could be done by creating a surface use ordinance and
by using signs.
