April 6, 198.8 Park Board Minutes 11 Bensing commented that safety was a high priority when creating the ordinance. Carlson said some of the changes were made by the DNR, we had no control aver those. We would have had a lot higher number of high powered boats on the lake if we would have gone with what the DNR wanted. If you want to make a change to the ordinance wait because the DNR may undo what we have proposed for operation of the boat launch. MOTION BY VAN HATTEN, SECONDED BY CARLSON, TO APPROVE THE LONG LAKE BOAT LAUNCH OPERATING PLAN WITH THE CHANGES MENTIONED. MOTION CARRIED.. Simons said the boat launch operating plan will go to the Council the last meeting in April. Fabian commented that he would like to make a comment not related to the launch but the lake itself. He was not in favor of the park at first but has been pleased with it so far. But is concerned about the sand and salt that is going into the lake from the streets because his street and others-have. not yet been swept. Brandt asked where he lived. Carlson said that-maybe the streets along the lake could be done first to keep the sand and salt from. going into the lake. Fabian also commented that perhaps the streets should be fixed in the fall instead of the spring. VI. Old Business A. Community Center Anderson said there has been a lot of discussion on the Community Center. The City Manager asked the Park Board to survey the residents to see what they desire. Anderson said when surveys are done now they are almost exclusively using random selection and analyzing the results. They are getting good validity. Shoreview has. recently taken a survey on a community center and asked a two part question: Would you like to see the city build a community center; and would you be willing to finance it. There was an overwhelming positive response to the first part of the question but less than half gave a positive response to the second half 'of the question.
