April b, 1988 Park Board Minutes
Simons said the operation will be done by the city so
they will decide how to handle it.
Resident Jerry Bensing, 1861 15th Ave. commented. that
he has never seen 30 boats on the lake at one time.
That is quite high density.
Simons responded that. only 5 are high. powered boats,
the other are fishing or small boats. The reason you
haven't seen that density is probably because there
hasn't been a decent access on the lake.
Anderson said many of the people parking in the area
for cartop boats may not even have boats, there are
many shoreline fisherman.
8
MOTION BY VAN HATTEN, SECONDED BY OLSON, TO APPROVE THE
LONG LAKE BOAT LAUNCH PLAN. MOTION CARRIED.
B. Long Lake Boat Launch Operating Plan
Anderson said the operating plan is in its. third draft.
We need controls, days and hours of operation and a
budget.. This is the only lake in the area that will
have a monitor on-site. Because only 5 high powered.
boats are wanted on the lake, the only way. we ,could see
to do that was to have a person on-~sit~ to mt~nitor.
The 25 hp was the size used to distinguish between a
high powered boat and a fishing boat. Hours are
6:OOam-6:OOpm Memorial Day through Labor Day. Open 24
hours the rest of the year.
Van Hatten asked if there would be one or two
attendants.
Anderson said two would rotate about half their time
would be spent doing maintenance.
Johnson said there was a lot of discussion on how to
distinguish between a fishing boat and a high powered
boat. The 25 h.p. was the determining factor.
Cobb asked if 25 h.p. was considered a high powered
boat.
Johnson said 24..9 h.p. and below was considered a
fishing boat the way he understands it.
Wayne Eck, resident at 1321 12th Ave., asked if water
or jet bikes qualified as a boat.
Carlson said yes, they have to have a boat license.
Simons said maybe the operating plan should use the
words "high speed water craft".instead of "boat."
