February 10, 1988 Park Board Minutes
Page 3
Anderson said this is a big project that will be done at
Freedom. Will be putting about $20,000 into parking, $10,000
hockey, $15,000 grading, $15,000 lights, irrigating and
landscaping. The total is $130,000.
Johnson asked if there will be a fence.
Anderson said yes, the corners may be gated. It will be about
8 feet standard fence. The infield of the softball diamond
cuts into the football field.
Brandt asked who will be using the football field.
Don Weissman of the North Metro Jr. Football League responded
that 300-700 kids. Don said it would be a good improvement
over using Hansen.
Anderson said Hansen is so wet because the area is all peat and
water does not drain.
A resident asked who would be in charge of the lights.
Anderson said an attendant will be there whenever lights are in
use.
A resident said Brighton Square has had some vandalism, fearing
this may increase the problem.
Anderson said fencing has been talked about but there would
have to be a vote from Brighton Square because there is some
controversy regarding the fence.
The resident said they don't want a chain link fence. Shrubs
have been talked about.
A resident said that people coming through this area will
increase.
Anderson said not necessarily. The decision is yours. We can
fence or put in shrubs.
A resident stated they do not want to block the view of the
park.
Patricia Kuentz stated she wants to thank Maurie for keeping
them informed and working with them.
Patricia said she is a proponent of youth activities but does
have some concerns for the City to take into consideration.
