January 6, 1988 Park Board Minutes Page 10
Anderson said there could be an agreement between the
county and the city that the city could do it.
Johnson thanked Mr. Schilling.
Simons showed the Park Board the concept plan for the
.boat launch. The boat launch would be done iri two
phases. One of the phases has steel sheeting which is
very expensive. That phase will be done last. Fishing
.dock is being provided for the lake shore. It was
decided earlier that the city would operate the boat
launch through 1989. There are 5 parking spaces for .high
speed boats, 10 for fishermen. The only way to regulate
this is to have someone there to monitor it. That person
would be responsible to use their judgment in directing
persons to the proper parking area. The parking spaces
are. the furthest away from the use area because it was
the best way to fit the spaces in. Will have a retention
pond that will also catch sediment. Also want to have
the fish be able to move. There is a turnaround, gate
house-with toilets (another toilet may be a possibility),
bike racks. and benches.
Van.Hatten suggested a way to have only 5 power boats-
- launched. Give them a pennant and-ask for a $10 deposit
.which will be .returned when the pennant is returned.
Williams asked what will happen if there are 11 people
who want to fish.
Simons said that will have to be addressed, the city will
control that.
Simons said the trail system is access to Long Lake Park
proper. June 15 is the scheduled finish date for the
south trail hope to have it done by the beach opening.
Anticipate the second part of the boat launch development
to be completed in the fall of 1988.
Simons said the plans for the large group picnic area
should be done the end of this month..
Simons said the Long Lake 'Advisory Committee will have a'
hearing for the boat launch. The Park Board could attend
the hearing and have a separate meeting and then come
back to the Long Lake Advisory Committee with their
recommendations.
