January 6, 1988 Park Board Minutes Page 7
B. Long Lake Boat Launch
Ken Simons was present to discuss two issues; the early
ideas for the boat launch and the north access to Long
,Lake Park off of Mississippi.
Simons introduced Mr. Schilling, a resident in the north
end of the city, who has. some concerns about the access.
Simons said there may be two. entrances; one off of
Mississippi and the other off of Poppyseed. Landscape.
buffers-will be used between Mr. Schilling's property and
the park.
Johnson told Simons that the Park Board was in favor of
having Mississippi as the primary access-and excited
about having a Poppyseed access .also.
Simons said he is checking some legalities about whethex
an easement is necessary for the formal entrance at
Mississippi.
Simons said this .plan will be taken to the Long Lake
Advisory Committee. Not sure the city needs to have a
hearing.on this. No formal action is necessary on the
entrance.
Williams asked if there .were any parking problems
perceived,-
Schilling stated that it is a problem now-and this new
access will compound the problem.
Simons said the proposed large group picnic area will
have parking. Don't see why people will want to park on
the street, unless because of fishing. Most people will
use the parking lot.
Johnson asked if parking could be allowed by permit only
in that area to discourage public parking.
Van Hatten asked Schilling if he wanted to forestall the
access.
Schilling said no, most people in that neighborhood see
it as an advantage.
Van Hatten said maybe parking should be banned on one
side of the street.
