TRAFFIC STUDY OF INTERSECTION AT <br />1VIcCALLUM DRIVE AND RIVIERA DRIVE <br />INTRODUCTION <br />This traffic study was directed to the Public Safety Commission, for their recommendation, by <br />the City Council on November Z$, 2006. The City received a petition from the residents in this <br />area to look at the possibility of the installation of stop signs on the corners of McCallum Drive <br />and Riviera Drive. The stop signs were requested in response that the traffic on McCallum Drive <br />is "extremely high and moves extremely fast". <br />Enclosed you will find a copy of the petition along with an aerial photo with red dots indicating <br />the households who signed the petition. <br />FIELD INSPECTION <br />McCallum Drive and Riviera Drive are both residential, neighborhood streets which intersect at a <br />right angle. There are no steep grades and sight distance at this intersection is adequate, with the <br />possible exception of a small planting box with a rose bush and shrub. The resident with the <br />plantings agreed to allow the City to remove this shrubbery, which was removed at the end of <br />December 2006. <br />The sight distance exceeds 70 feet in all four legs of the intersection. This is the American <br />Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) guideline for an <br />intersection with no traffic control and designated as a residential local street. <br />TRAFFIC COUNTS <br />Traffic counts taken at the intersection of McCallum Drive and Riviera Drive from November 9, <br />2006 through Novemberl5, 2006 are as follows. <br />Location Average 24 hour Count. <br />McCallum Drive: South of Riviera Dr. 367 <br />McCallum Drive: North of Riviera Dr. 184 <br />551 ~ 276 ADT (Average Daily Traffic) <br />Riviera Drive: West of McCallum Dr. 129 <br />Riviera Drive: East of McCallum Dr. 277 <br />406 ~ 203 ADT <br />These counts are typical of local residential streets and indicate that McCallum Drive and Riviera <br />Drive are carrying vezy little through traffic. For camparisan, Foss Road has an ADT of 2,200 <br />vehicles per day and County Road D has an ADT of 15,000 vehicles per day. A daily <br />breakdown of traffic counts are attached to this report. <br />
