Page 2
VII. New Business
A. Proposed Pike Lake Trail Extension
Sandy Breuer gave a power point presentation on the Pike Lake Trail Extension.
Letters were sent to those who reside within 350 ft of the expansion. Concerns
were to be directed to Sandy to be included in the Council Report. The Trails
Committee was going to discuss this but the Trails Committee meeting was
postponed because some Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission
members were attending the Council meeting to receive an award. The Trails
Committee has looked at the Trail extension and the Committee is backing it
100%. The proposed trail would go on the south side of Pike Lake Drive.
Five bids were received between $13,000 and $20,000, an additional $1,500
applied for brush and tree removal. All of these fees' will be covered by Park
Dedication money.
This item will be placed on the August 14'' Council agenda; as a consent item. No
formal action is needed on this item. It is for your information and the viewing
public.
Heinrich encouraged commissioners to walk the trail if they haven't already.
There is an additional trail that circles the holding pond that was put in a few
years ago.
Harreld inquired if there were future plans, maybe not as part of this discussion, to
improve the pedestrian crosswalk there on Long Lake Road across from the
church?
Norton, stated the Trails Committee has discussed this. There are some ideas and it
has been identified as an area of interest. Breuer added that she believes the
County needs to be involved as well. Norton stated the bridge has been discussed
as well; the whole area has its challenges. Many improvements need to be made
but the limitations are the bridge itself and the ramp coming up from the freeway.
Heinrich mentioned that trails that don't connect are an issue and that is
something we want to correct in the future.
B. RFP's for Park Planning Services for NWQ - Update
Breuer stated again that this is more for information purposes. We are starting to
move forward with what kind of amenities will be put up; what does the
community want to see. We received 3 proposals. These are currently being
reviewed. All are metropolitan firms. Applications were rated; there were several
mechanisms used to rate them; not just price, but items that we felt we are looking
for in the Northwest Quadrant. We will check references, interview firms and
then make a recommendation for the August 14th Council meeting. The proposal
was positioned to include both the west and east sides were included in the
proposals. We thought the east side would not see as much development; although
recently they seem to be coming out of the woodwork.
